Is Social Media Bringing People Closer Together or Making Everyone More Lonely?

Think about how easy it is to stay connected with friends and family today. You can message someone on the other side of the world, join communities with people who share your interests, and reconnect with people you haven't seen in years. In many ways, social media has made distance feel less important than ever. But it also feels like people today are too busy with their phones rather than connecting offline with others. Do you think social media has made relationships stronger or left people feeling more isolated? Have you personally experienced both sides of it?

Bringing people together as always—the only ones who cause people to divide and feel lonelier are the haters.

Exactly. Thanks to social media people got through covid when on lockdowns and whatnot.

Is there a bad side such as bullying? Yes but that would happen offline too.

The social connection that social media seems to give is just an illusion. It is not real. What social media gives as social connection is to make it seem like you are connected a person whereas there is no real efrorts that is expended to cement connections.

I think that social media could bring people closer to each other in many different ways. Social media could be used to form a community and attract people to that community. This could potentially create new connections within the community. In this way, social media could help a lot. We must use social media in the right manner. When used correctly, it could potentially be useful.

Like every other things with two sides of a coin. The same is applicable with social media. It's comes with its bad and good side. But as usual I would dwell more on the good side. I think social media has done a good job of connecting more than what we have offline with social media you can be interacting with different people over a very long distance.

And yes, absolutely everything in this life has both a good and a bad side, but I believe that, proportionally, there are more positive aspects than negative ones. The only issue is that, lately, the nonsense from "haters" has become trendy, which makes it seem as though negative energy, toxicity, and hatred are more prevalent—but that’s not the case at all.

I would say that social media is bringing people closer together rather than making everyone feel more lonely.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a perfect example of how, even though we all had to keep our distance, we could still keep in contact with friends and family, and even talk with others online and meet new friends.

Social media can be quite toxic; I will not deny that, but it has its good as well, and socialising with others is one of those positives.
