Is it better to always tell the truth, even when it hurts?

Yes it is aways good to tell the truth One lie will lead to more lies to defend the lies told and it goes on Lies rob our sleep.

The truth is very important, but it's not always easy. Sometimes you need to consider people's feelings and the situation before you decide.

There is no alternative to telling the truth . One has to be prepared to bear the consequences as one lie will lead to many lies and sleepless nights will follow

Not always. I mean, the Bible says not to tell a lie - but I think God understands. For instance, with my wife, the truth was she had serious mental illness and she was violent. But nonetheless, I couldn’t always be direct with that too much - because she loved our son and condescending remarks like that would have hurt our relationship and her mental health seriously.

But I did say those remarks before she died, when things were collapsing - and we were fighting. I said those things in anger cause she was giving me silent treatment, throwing things at me - etc..

I want to hear the truth at all times. I don't care what the circumstances are because with the truth, I get to suffer once and get over it but with lies, I'll suffer twice from the same thing.

Telling the truth all the time isn't wise. It's pushing buttons. It can be condescending - and a form of bullying.

If I had to ultimately choose - I would choose telling the truth all the time. People will most likely not get why you lied to them, even if it’s to not hurt them. Simply telling the truth is the way I would go, I would prefer hearing it myself too.

A teacher told me once that a lie always gives birth to more lies. It’s better to speak the truth and be free.

Yes, but there are ways to tell the truth without offending the other person; with tact, anything can be said.

If the truth would put someone is mental turmoil, it is not worth saying the truth as bluntly as it was. One could find a way to be diplomatic and economic about the truth to protect the person.
