How many moderators does a forum need?
This question often comes up; it depends on the size of the forum and its user base. If it is extremely large, it will clearly need more than one, but if the forum has a manageable number of people for a single person, then one moderator suffices.
It depends on how big the forum. I mean, honestly, my forums don’t need admins and moderators - so if you see them, they’re just me being friendly to people.
It depends on the niche of the forum. If you’ve got a promotional forum that offers services, you’ll need some extra help when you open your forum up. If it’s a gaming forum or a general discussion forum, you should wait to get staff once the forum becomes active and you feel the need to hire staff. Also if you’re not familiar with the software you’re using, it’s fine to hire a co admin to help with the technical things. I currently have a co admin on Gex Forums and he handles the tech side of things with the forum, where I pay for the hosting and domain name.
This is a question I see asked often, and depending on how you run things and how much work there is for your forum, I find it is a different answer for each person individually.
For myself, I find that having just myself and one other admin, usually my other half, is more than enough from the beginning. As long as I can keep up with the workload, I don’t see a reason to have any mods until things start getting super busy and the workload gets too much for me.
