Investigative Process on Forums

For my day job, I work in gaming surveillance. As part of my official duties, I perform investigations into control violations, criminal activity, money laundering, and fraud.

Investigating is a very thorough process that requires you to be unbiased, withhold opinions, and really pay attention to the details.

This skill is something I’ve brought to forums. If an abusive incident takes place, I perform an investigation before I take action. I feel this is the best way to avoid taking the wrong action, which most always results in more unwanted results from angry members.

Do you also use the investigative strategy on your forum when dealing with abuse, or do you just hurry up, act, and beg for forgiveness later?

Trail Running Forum - A forum dedicated to trail running, gear, training, and more.

I think I would involve my staff in a discussion about said issue and we would all agree or mostly all agree on an approximate resolution.
