Theme choice is often treated as a simple aesthetic preference, but it can significantly impact how long visitors stay on your site and whether they return. While automatic system matching is common today, setting the default theme for first-time guest visitors still plays a huge role in first impressions and bounce rates.
Which one would you set as the default? Have you noticed any difference in user retention between the two? Or do you automatically mirror their system settings?
Light mode vs Dark Mode - which performs better for user retention?
Personal preference is light for a webmaster/admin type site and dark for a general discussion forum. No idea why.

I think the best option for a website is to let people choose rather than assume everyone wants the same thing. A nice theme might grab my attention initially, but it's the community, content and overall experience that would actually keep me coming back : )

I am not sure some pretty prefer bright screen while some prefer dark screen also depending on the time of the day and what actually the niche is.
I actually really like the current colours! 😍 They give the site a warm, welcoming feel and make it stand out a little more than a standard white theme. I think having both options is ideal though, as everyone has their own preference. I’d probably use the lighter one during the day and switch to dark in the evenings : )

I like ForumSpark because I can put it on system mode here so it'll do dark on my mobile and light on my laptop as I use dark mode for my phone.
