No one can deny that he was a legendary director; his death will always remain a mystery. He made legendary films—for instance, one of his most popular is The Shining. Have you seen other films by Stanley Kubrick? What did you think of them? Did you like them or not? He marked a turning point in the world of cinema.

I love The Shining but hate some of the behind the scenes stories and how they treated Shelley.

I have no idea what happened behind the scenes, but I can make a guess. What actually happened?

* Constant criticism: Stanley Kubrick frequently criticised Shelley Duvall's acting and pushed her to her limits.

* Exhausting filming: She spent hours crying and performing emotionally intense scenes, sometimes for entire days.

* 127 takes: The famous staircase scene with Jack Nicholson reportedly took 127 takes.

* Physical stress: Shelley said the pressure became so intense that her hair started falling out.

* Emotional exhaustion: She described crying for up to 12 hours a day during the final nine months of filming.

* Mixed relationship: Although Kubrick could be cruel and demanding, Shelley also recalled moments when he was friendly and kind.

* Jack Nicholson's support: Shelley and Jack reportedly got along well, and he understood how difficult the production was for her.
