What is the most unsuccessful forum niche?

Many people never talk about unsuccessful forum biche. However, it is very important to highlight this topic so that we could avoid such topics or niches. I think that forums related to unpopular hobbies or outdated products are the kind of forum that may not survive the test of the time. A forum about an outdated product is also hard to tackle. What do you think?

I feel like a Toe clipping fetish forum based off of the toe clippings of the elderly would be objectively one of the least successful forum niches I could think of on the spot XD

On an actual note, I do not think unpopular hobbies would be an unsuccessful forum at all. If anything it could easily become the most active. My largest forum was about a very niche game making program, and on top of that, it was about a specific version of that niche game making program. Since there was so little options it was extremely easy to grow and to get it listed on google through backlinks which did not take long at all to build. I ended up getting first on google for about 10 different keywords and managed to blow it up because of it. The more unpopular the hobby the less likely people only in it for money will be to make a community for it. Leaving it open to actual passionate people. Which means you could be the “FINALLY A COMMUNITY FOR X”, then the small community will tell everyone else about it and before you know it you could be larger than the previous place people huddled in. Same thing with outdated products to an extent. My current site just got 100+ members without me actually promoting it outside of making a promotion post here and there. It’s mostly just my signature and active. That site is based around the old web which is an outdated product. Buuut, it’s a product that people miss. So you can easy have a successful (I wouldn’t call my current project successful, but there’s def a possibility it gets there one way which I do not care one way or another if it does, it’s a passion project).

At the end of the day, I think the only unsuccessful forum niche is a too specific forum niche. The only way to really fail is if instead of saying “Outdated camcorders” you have a forum specifically for the “Panasonic OmniMovie VHS HQ AV CCD Camera from the 1980s” because there’s a lot of people out there making their own indie movies using old camcorders, you’d probably have a fairly successful time making a forum for “Outdated Camcorders” if you played it right, but to have a specific niche Camcorder from 1987 only would be one of the few ways to truly not succeed imo.

I don't know, but it must be something very niche—like a knife forum, or something like that. I'm sure it's something of that sort, though I couldn't tell you exactly which niche it is. Now you've got me curious—does anyone know?

The niche that you were unable to get going.

There isn’t one specific one in particular.

It’s any that you couldn’t do.

Niche related to outdated technology is least popular. People love to follow trends and upcoming trends. Therefore, creating a forum about any kind of outdated niche would not be a really good idea. Having said that, there are so many forums that spread misinformation. Initially such forums may get a lot of attention. However, by the passage of time, your forum would fade away.

This is true, and when I think about it, it’s fairly obvious; it’s unlikely that anyone would bother reading a forum about early calculators—that’s something that has become completely obsolete by now. Clearly, this isn’t a profitable niche, and a forum of this kind certainly wouldn’t be either.

It’s any particular niche that doesn’t take off for its owner. I don’t believe there isn’t one specific niche in mind. You can have a successful forum with an unpopular hobby or outdated products niche as long as you’re able to build a strong fan base around it. There are many forums with unique and unpopular hobbies that have found some type of success. You never really know what’s unpopular or outdated unless it doesn’t take off. That’s the golden rule.

The niche isn’t a problem as there’s fans of everything, it’s whether the owner can keep the community active by posting, new additions, etc etc.
