When I look at a community, I tend to look for things like activity, how friendly the staff are, and how friendly the community is.

A good community often comes from feeling welcomed and like you belong within that community, where you can join a community as a new member and instantly feel like you are really part of the community rather than just a β€˜newbie’.

I support this. The warm feeling that you belong in a community and you are welcomed is the exact reason to stay. It’s what I feel here. Everyone is kind, we actively participate in discussions, and I feel like I’ve made new friends. And as a staff member myself, I always strive to nurture a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

A great forum community relies on a delicate balance of user behavior, structural design, and proactive leadership. When built effectively, a forum transforms from a simple Q&A message board into a self-sustaining "knowledge engine”.

It’s essential to understand the difference between a forum and a community.

A forum is a platform for discussing topics. XenForo, Forum Spark, Pro Boards, SMF, Invision, and vBulletin are all examples of forums.

A community is a group of people in a developed relationship that surrounds a specific topic based on interests, passion, industry, or a cause.

It’s easy to create a forum.

It’s a challenge to create a community.

In order to create a community, people need to be networked to the point where a friendship between members is developed. That’s where onboarding, engagement, and real strategy come into play.

It can be hard work, but it’s really rewarding.
