Would you trust a fully self driving car?

My grandmother just said it randomly one day that there’s no way she can sit down and be relaxed in a car that drives itself. She claims that such technology is not so reliable as to trust human lives with it.

Can you trust a self driving vehicle?

Well, we really cannot trust humans as well. Who knows the intention of the driver? As far as self driving cars are concerned, I think that using a combination of AI and human intervention, it could become much safer. This would allow humans to use AI when it comes to navigating the vehicle and avoiding the accidents. This is what I am talking about. Of course such cars would be using sensors and other hardware for hat.

I prefer to be in control, but I’d like to test one out someday in a confined track :)

I totally get where your grandmother is coming from, but honestly, self-driving cars are already statistically safer and far better than most human drivers out there today. They don't get distracted, tired, or reckless. That said, I’m right there with you - even knowing the tech is reliable, I’d still want the option to have full control over the car. Technology is great, but peace of mind and feeling in control matters just as much.

I'll give it a try.

Self-driving cars are extremely scary to me. I can't feel relax and let the machine drive me. Just can't handle that. It's like a suicide mission, especially on a bad road like ours.

What if it Self-driving vehicle crashes into gutter or with another vehicle? What if it is trying to dodge the potholes and some street hawkers crossing the road randomly. That might result in a big disaster.

I think that self driving cars could be trusted when used correctly. It should never speed up to full extent. High speed causes a lot of accidents and self driving cars might avoid it. Self driving cars could eliminate the possibility of human error to much extent, as such cars will use AI and other sensors in order to control the vehicle.

If an autonomous vehicle gets into an accident, who gets sued? The manufacturer. Companies simply won't take on the huge financial risk of endless lawsuits over every crash, street-hawker incident, or sudden dodge. Until laws completely shield car companies from liability, no manufacturer is going to risk bankrupting themselves just to offer hands-free driving.

As someone who drives a car daily, I prefer to have full control over my vehicle, and I feel that having full control over my vehicle is the best way to prevent accidents that could happen, especially when driving through busy places.

I would love to one day try out a self-driving car on an enclosed track away from traffic and pedestrians, but I don’t think I could ever trust a self-driving car away from a secure track.

Well the fact that it is a self driving car means that it if fully equipped with technology that reduces accidents to the barest minimum. If there is an obstacle in the front, 99 times out of 100 the car stops.
