How do I deal with inactive members?

Set a time limit, but a very flexible one—something like: if they don't connect—meaning they don't log in—within three months, then the account is permanently closed.

As much as this can sound like a good idea, it tends to have the opposite effect when used and can often lead to a bad reputation, or those members just not being interested in wanting to come back.

The way I look at it is that life can get crazy sometimes, and once active members can become inactive for a long period of time. They do not owe you an explanation, and sometimes when life gets crazy, they can forget about your community.

Simple emails, maybe even newsletter emails sent to all members, can reach out to inactive members who may end up coming back if they have the time to dedicate again.
